The Red Swing Project was started in February of 2007 as a
result of an assignment for an Architecture class at the University of Texas at
Austin. A student began to anonymously hang red swings in public places to
infuse a sense of playfulness into urban environment.
The idea takes a simple red swing and places it in a vacant
lot or underneath a highway and transforms the location in to a playground.
A reminder to have fun even in the most isolated of times, the
Red Swing Project has influenced the anonymous appearances of nearly 200 swings
in local Austin areas as well as locations nationally and globally.
This spring, Art Alliance Austin has commissioned the Red
Swing Project to install numerous swings throughout downtown Austin.
Want to partake in the anonymous installation of red swings
and promote playfulness in everyday life in your area? The Red Swing Project
has an in dept how-to manual to setting up your own swing and being part of the
movement! http://www.redswingproject.org/get-involved/how-to/
